Elm City Express capped a stunning inaugural season by claiming the NPSL title in New Haven, Conn.
Tavoy Morgan (Bridgeport, Conn.) and Quenton Swift (Enfield, Conn.) scored twice as the Express secured the title with a 5-0 victory over Midland-Odessa on Aug. 12 at Reese Stadium.
The triumphant ending included a bumper crowd of 3,112 packed onto the campus of Yale University and one last rampant performance to cap a stunning debut season.
"It’s a real joy to be able to win this championship at home," Express coach Teddy Haley told the New Haven Register. "To bring this to our fans makes us all proud. The fans have been great to us all year. We felt we could do this from the start with the support of Zack Henry(team owner), the entire management team, the support of the city."
It showed from the moment Elm City took the field to start the season filled to the brim with Connecticut products. This group lost only one game throughout the duration of the campaign and swiped aside Legacy 76 (4-0 on July 21), Clarkstown SC Eagles (3-1) and CD Aguiluchos USA (2-0) on the way to the final.
