Amid a wide-ranging discussion about college soccer recruiting during the COVID-19 pandemic, Amherst men’s head coach Justin Serpone turns to an interesting analogy.
A passionate basketball fan, he references the 2020 NBA Draft and how this year’s virtual event was more of a toss-up. March Madness didn’t happen, the 2019-20 college season was cut short and teams couldn't welcome players for workouts, complicating the selection process.
“The first round, the best player might be taken 25th when it’s all said and done," Serpone said.
