DEDHAM, Mass. — Phillips Andover makes a one-goal lead feel a lot bigger.

After Emma Sharon put the visitors ahead 1-0 in the 19th minute, the Big Blue spent the rest of Wednesday’s showdown at Nobles showing why it has emerged as a legitimate Class A title contender.

There was the midfield — led by Ashley Dimnaku, Sharon and freshman Lily Zacher — winning first balls with remarkable consistency to help Andover play on its front foot. There was the defense, anchored by three steady seniors, snuffing out attacks with physicality and anticipation on the rare occasions Nobles entered a dangerous area. And finally, there was the passing. Balls that switched fields. Long forays ahead. Crisp, incisive passes on the ground.

When the final whistle blew on Andover’s thorough 1-0 win over a very good Nobles side, it almost felt routine. At this point, it sort of is for Lisa Joel’s team. The No. 3 Big Blue improved to 13-1-1 and posted their Class A-leading 10th shutout of the fall, simultaneously lowering their goals-against average to 0.35.

Only four opponents have scored on Andover all season. And after being one of the last teams left out of the Class A tournament last fall, the Big Blue have left no doubt about where they stand in the Class A hierarchy in 2026.

Wednesday’s win, against a Nobles team squarely on the playoff bubble and riding high off a marquee victory over Lawrence Academy, was the latest example of Andover’s ability to rise to the occasion.
