That’s the number of goals the FC Stars Blue 2008/2007 team allowed this season in New England Conference play, an amount that may surprise outside observers but doesn’t totally shock coach and club director Graeme Blackman.
During the offseason, the team built its identity around three principles: relentless pressure, hunger to win the ball and rapid counter pressing.
The approach translated throughout the spring, with FC Stars Blue consistently controlling matches defensively. On Saturday, the team capped a perfect 12-0-0 season and 50-1 goal differential in the league with a 2-0 win over Scorpions SC at Taunton Forekicks in the regular season finale. Up next? A showdown in the Champions League Round of 16 playoffs next Saturday (May 23) in Lancaster, Mass., against the North Atlantic champion, with the winner heading to the national finals in St. Louis.
